Mindfulness Meditation
The word meditation comes from the Latin term meditatum, meaning “to ponder.” The concept of mindfulness has Buddhist roots and is translated from the word Sati. Sati refers to the “moment to moment awareness of present events.” We become more aware of how our minds work and how are thoughts are connected to feelings and behavior when we practice meditation (West, 2016). Meditation is a grace filled practice that focuses the mind using a multitude of techniques and goes back thousands of years with specific origins ultimately unknown. Meditative practices generally focus on mind and body alignment and are used to calm the mind and enhance overall well-being and vitality. Mindful meditation involves maintaining mental focus on awareness of the present moment. Mental focus can also be on breathing, a sensation, a sound, visual imagery, or a mantra (a repeated word or phrase).
Developing the art of meditation practice requires a commitment to mindfulness and intention. Each meditation below gently guides the listener inward towards internal states of self-empowerment, self-healing and elevated states of self-awareness. Meditation can aid in mental focus, relaxation and releasing of emotional tension in the body. Using the guided meditations below allows you to deepen access to self-soothing from within. Set aside 10 minutes of your time for yourself, listen with headphones on and sit comfortably.
